A paper analyzing the role of storyboards in Japanese animation production and proposing the storyboard creation tool “Griffith” has been accepted for presentation at the international conference CHI 2024 (The 2024 CHI Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems).
This achievement stems from a joint research project between our research team, Arch Research, and the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST). The accepted paper is about “Griffith” – a tool developed based on feedback from industry professionals, including Director Kazuya Murata. According to our research team, this is the first CHI paper published by the anime industry, and we believe it will serve as an important reference for the international academic community, presenting the process of anime production from a technical perspective.
Paper title: Griffith: A Storyboarding Tool Designed with Japanese Animation Professionals
